They go well with your espresso, latte or cappuccino in the morning. But they make a great mid-afternoon treat as well. Sure, you can have Italian cookies in so many different flavors…but we like coffee flavoured ones the best! These 3 recipes are easy to make at home and they can also be a great activity for the whole family on a rainy afternoon!

Melt-in-the-mouth Italian coffee cookies
If you like the crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside kind of sensation, this recipe is for you. After you bake them, they’ll stay fresh for a few days in a closed cookie jar. This recipe will take about 3 hours.
What you need:
- 2 ¼ cup all purpose flour
- 3 ½ oz regular butter
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 espresso shot (we suggest, for this recipe, our Classic blend)
- 1 egg
- Vanilla aroma
- 1½ tsp regular yeast
- 1 pinch of salt
- Sugar for the topping
- Icing sugar
Preparation:
- Make your one-shot espresso with your coffee machine or stovetop coffee maker, when it’s ready pour it in a bowl and let it cool down
- Wish butter and sugar together in a bowl. When the two ingredients are well mixed together add egg, salt and coffee.
- Add the all-purpose flour, the yeast, the vanilla aroma and mix everything together. When you get a smooth texture, cover the bowl and place it in the fridge for 1 hour.
- After the hour has passed, take the bowl out if the fridge, and start making small golf ball-sized balls with your dough. Roll them in the regular sugar and then in the icing sugar.
- Place the little balls on a baking pan and bake at 375F for 15 minutes. Leave them to cool down before serving and…enjoy!
Coffee and almonds Italian cookies
If you are craving some natural-old style cookies, that’s the perfect recipe for you! Read on!
What you need:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cups brown sugar
- 1 cup almond flour
- 2 fl oz vegetable oil
- 2 ¼ tsp regular yeast
- 1 egg
- 1 one-shot espresso (we suggest our Caffé Aiello 100% Arabica blend for this recipe)
- Vanilla aroma
- 1 pinch of salt
- Coffee beans for topping
- Sugar for topping
Preparation:
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg and the sugar
- Add all the other ingredients while you keep stirring
- Take a small handful of dough and roll it in the sugar. Repeat with all the remaining dough.
- Place the raw biscuits on a baking tray by allowing some space between one and the other – they are going to grow! Now, on top of each cookie, place one coffee bean: that’s your final touch. Let them bake in a pre-heated oven at 375F for 15 minutes.
- When your coffee and almond cookies are ready, let them reach room temperature before serving.
Vegan Coffee Italian cookies
Did you recently switch to a vegan diet and are afraid you won’t be able to enjoy Italian cookis anymore? Well we have good news for you: you can! Read on to discover this recipe:
What you need:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 fl oz vegetable oil
- 1 ½ oz dark chocolate
- 1 tsp regular yeast
- 2 shots of espresso coffee – we suggest you use our Intense blend for this recipe
- 1 tsp soluble coffee powder
- Coffee beans for topping
Preparation:
- In a bowl, mix the flour, the yeast and the sugar together
- Pour in the coffee, the soluble coffee powder and the vegetable oil
- Now you can start kneading the dough with your hands
- Make small balls with your dough and place them on a baking tray. Once you have placed them on the tray, flatten them a little bit by putting pressure with your hands
- Bake in the oven at 375F for 15 minutes
- Once ready take them out and leave them to cool. Meanwhile melt the dark chocolate (in the microwave or with bain-marie technique), pour the melted chocolate on the cookies and place one coffee been on each cookie before it solidifies.
