Two ways to make the coffee sauce
We are going to give two versions of this recipe, one uses cream and one does not, you’re your preferred one depending on your cooking preferences.
Coffee sauce (cream recipe)
Ingredients:
- 2 espresso shot (we recommend our Caffè Aiello Intenso for this recipe)
- ¼ cup unsweetened cream (Better if UHT)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
Put the two espressos in a pan and set the stove at low heat. Add the cream, the sugar and salt and mix everything together until creamy.
Coffee sauce (cream-free recipe)
Ingredients:
- 3 espresso shot (we recommend our Caffè Aiello Intenso for this recipe as well)
- ½ oz all-purpose flour
- A knob of butter
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
Put the 3 espressos in a pan with the butter and set the stove to low heat. Add the sugar and salt and stir everything together. Now you can add the flour, little by little, and blend the mixture – be careful you don’t want any lump in it – until you reach the desired creaminess.
If during preparation you get a too-thick sauce, add in a little be of coffee rebalance the sauce.
If you want to add more flavour to the sauce you can add onion, which you will cook in the pan before you add the coffee in. You can also add herbs such as rosemary or thyme with pairs perfectly with coffee taste.
On which foods to you use the sauce?
We taught you the easiest ways to prepare coffee sauce, and the more you’ll practice the better you’ll get. This is the first step to be able to prepare a coffee reduction sauce, which we will present in one of our next articles.
But we are going to take it little by little. Where are you going to put your amazing coffee sauce then? Here’s a few pairings we have tested for you:
- Fillet (beef)
- Beef slices
- Any kind of roast
- Steak
- Salmon
- Sea bass
The nicest way to present your dish would be to put your main element (the fish or the meat) on one half of the plate, and to pour the sauce on the other half. Be careful not to be too generous with the sauce or you are going to get a messy presentation.
And if you are in for a coffee-based dinner, here you can find a sweet preparation to serve as a dessert!
