You will need just a few ingredients and the method is really easy: surprise your guests with the perfect mochaccino!
What’s a mochaccino?
The mochaccino is a coffee based hot drink that’s in between an espresso and a cappuccino. To simplify it at its max, think about it as a mix of the two plus a magic ingredient: chocolate, of course. Mochaccino has gained its popularity back in Italy in the last few years. People order it at the cafe, but they also make it at home, because it’s so simple and yummy!
Where does the mochaccino come from?
The origins of this delicious coffee twist are still uncertain. There seems to be many opinions on this matter, but the most plausible is that the mochaccino is a modification of Turin’s “bicierin” (read about it in our blog!). Mochaccino and Bicierin are in fact very similar, the only difference is in the cream, which is in the Bicierin’s recipe but not in mochaccino’s one.

Mochaccino’ recipes
As for all traditions there is no one and only one recipe, everyone has its own special version. We are going to give you what is considered to be the “official” one, which is made with dark chocolate.
Ingredients (4 servings)
- 4 espresso shots
- 3 1/3 cups of whole milk
- 3 ½ oz dark chocolate
- Brown sugar to sweeten (optional)
- Cocoa powder
Method
You’ll begin by chopping the chocolate in fine chips with a knife. Pour the milk in a saucepan and once it’s hot, add in the chocolate chips until everything is melted.
Pour it in 4 espresso cups: the aim is not to fill them up to the edge. A nice touch: use glass espresso cups for this recipe, it’s nice to see!
By using a little bit more of milk, prepare some milk foam. Pour it in the cups, but do not stir! The layers don’t have to blend. Remember to leave a little space for the espressos!
Time for the espresso shots! What Caffe Aiello’s brand are you going to use? For this specific recipe we recommend our Intense blend or the Home espresso blend. Both of them will give you the perfect creamy aroma!
Pour the espressos in the cups and here you are! Don’t forget to sprinkle it with some cocoa before serving. Enjoy your home made mochaccino and don’t forget to let us know your impressions!
